The Ridgewood oral history is the first interview to be featured on the new Tennessee leg of our Southern BBQ Trail. Look for updates on our Memphis and rural Tennessee interviews--our very first foray into documentary work from 2002 that Rien Fertel revisited last year--to round out our Tennessee Trail offerings later this summer.

BARBECUE IN THE MOUNTAIN SOUTH
SFA field trippers will get a taste of the food pictured above this Thursday night as part of our annual field trip. This year we head to the Mountain Empire, where we'll get our fill of 'cue from Ridgewood Barbecue in Bluff City, TN. Our oral history interview with Larry Proffitt of Ridgewood is now online. Go here to read about the Ridgewood when it was a roadhouse, why they smoke hams instead of shoulders, and the inspiration behind their baked beans.
